William haircut

William got a haircut to celebrate the end of the term. Yesterday I have returned to Sock-Vile and replacing audio throughout. This is meticulous work that will take me a long time.

Time loosens up

Grades are in. Taxes are done. William's last final was handed in yesterday. I even caught up on my email. Took time to play a record and paint.

Maricarmen defends

Congratulations Maricarmen Tay Lee Sanchez on successfully defending her MFA thesis this morning. Mike and I supervised and we are super pleased. Things went very well. The external, Dr. Elizabeth Miller asked many great questions and was very supportive and encouraging for Maricarmen's future research.

Spring and essays

Spring in the front yard. William has one last paper to do for tomorrow morning. I thought it was almost done on the weekend (I didn't read it but it had enough words and it had an introduction and a conclusion and a title page, so what else is needed?). Anyway, looks like there are many more details that will keep William busy all day.

Disc camera

Painted another disc camera. This is my third. I looked them up and discovered that there were at least 16 variations, due in part to the fact that a few other companies licensed out the format (why???!!!).

Talisman concludes

We've been playing the Allan Dotson mod of Talisman since Christmas (about 6 sessions). Margaret finally won, but I think a few endgame issues came to light that may have been overlooked in the old days when the game either doesn't end or ends at 4am with everyone exhausted. Saving every detail of the game within Tabletop Simulator and playing online makes huge differences, many good but some bad.

April Wine

Was in meeting with Mike and Maricarmen this morning. There was an ongoing conversation about putting personal items on you walls, things such as concert tickets. I mentioned my April Wine ticket stub from the first real rock concert I went to and Mike said I should tell Amber. Such a mysterious thing to tell me, or so I thought. Anyway, I listened to four April Wine LPs while painting today.

Mood to paint more

I've been feeling like painting more. William has big papers due so I'm also trying to keep the tv at a minimum to reduce distractions.

More painting

Lock down of the city has resulted in the painting class, which is to start next week, will be delayed a couple of weeks (or more).

summer tires

Got the summer tires, the nicer hubs, and a wash for the car today. Feeling like one of the cool kids again.

New windows

We replaced the windows throughout the second floor of the house. We ordered them about a month ago and the labour was complete just past lunch. Pretty good work and they all open and close easily. I won't need to put the storm windows in and out ever again (except main floor of course... and the attic).

Eyes

Got my eyes tested. Panicking because they have changed so much since the big diabetic episode a couple of weeks ago. Doctor says they are okay so far.

Busy Saturday

I don't know how we used to do three things in one day, it's exhausting. Anyway, I made arrangements with Sean to get into the woodshop and cut my new panels (I will have about 150 now) and the family took a walk down to the gallery to see the closing of the current Slate show. Afterwards my parents came over and we spent time on the deck, now that it has warmed up again.

Fish are growing

The baby fish are growing. I think I have 11 small ones now. They are looking like real fish now and they totally come to the surface as soon as the light turns on. I call them the swarm.

Painting

Painted a Holga with a polaroid back on it. It nicely fits the proportions of the panel I paint on (all of the panels are 9x11" by the way).

Vacinated

I went to my appointed vaccination (even though I'd been able to get in the drive through line for it with Margaret four days ago) at the university gym and got my shot of AstraZeneka.

Dark Shadow Knights

William has this comic for a course in narrative drawing from Chrystene Ells in progress. It's a three page story about Dark Shadows with the idea that Roger is Bruce.

winter returns

Strange month of warm and cold days. Snow returned. Going to be cold all week. We did manage to have a visit before the cold really hit and my sister gave me one of her really cool chicken paintings. An angry one.

crocus hunting

Drove out of town, bringing Gertrud and Fred along, and found crocuses growing. It's going to be cold again starting tomorrow so we might miss them if we didn't get out now.

10 more cameras

I ran a bunch of errands this afternoon, picking up stuff to take to the university and also picking up a box of cameras from Em. The box is packed with 10, to be revealed over the next couple of weeks....

More polaroids

The more Polaroid cameras I paint, the more I seem to find. Models often seem identical until compared closely at which point labels, colours, buttons, and sometimes viewfinders and reconfigured. This is the last of a batch I got from Geremy.

Painting during talks

Listened to some UofR Philosophy Cafe and then Dunlop's Quick and Dirty while painting an HP digital camera.

Flash bar on SX-70

William had on an Articulate Ink shirt with a Polaroid SX-70 screen printed on it and I realized that I'd never added a flash bar (which I found one of in my office recently). Fortunately I'd not returned Em's camera yet so I painted a new version of it.

Matching

Matching shirt to camera. Em's camera. Is it the model for the printed shirt from Articulate Ink in which Em is a core member? Possibly.

Allan and fire

Go so hot we didn't even need a fire. More socially distanced that usual, but it was great to have Allan over for the first time in many months.

Early turkey

Even though it's not even good Friday, I popped the turkey into the oven. Margaret bought an un-frozen (ie: fresh) one this week and I didn't see any point in keeping it sitting in the frig raw. Only 10 pounds. Very juicy.
