Anxious cat

I took Sylvie (our cat) for a car ride today. I always have good intentions of training cats to do things they don't like, such as going in the car, but I don't do it enough so they go crazy. I held her the whole time and her heart beat was like thunder against me.
I met with grad students this morning. This evening we finished season one of "Slings and Arrows". William has begun to ask to watch it, so the Shakespeare is really getting engaging.

Aww, it's great that you are spending time with the feline.
Cat hearts naturally beat pretty fast and hard, but if you want to try again maybe the kitty would like a blankee or honeysuckle toy to induce calmness.

If you're holding her unnaturally it may make her think she's in an unsafe environment.

Last suggestion is a pheromone spray called Feliway that helps cats know that they are safe. It is supposedly a "natural product", a synthetic copy of the feline facial pheromone, used by cats to mark their territory as safe and secure. You'd spray the back seat or her blankee a few minutes before the car trip. Don't spray the cat : |
