William at home

William started a new art project today. He need to create a response work to David Opdyke. Time lounging with the cat was also in the cards.

Pink camera

Painted with hot pink camera from Noelle. I'd forgotten to look for a charger to try to get it to open the lens, but I'm happy enough with the closed lens (chromed metal surfaces) look.

Curry and noodles

Not much happened today. I made a curry but then put it immediately together with a big batch of noodles. I thought it was basically a soup but by the time I'd served it, the noodles had sucked up all the liquid and it was a great noodle dish.

Sylvie going crazy?

Sylvie has been going crazy this year. It might actually date back to when Nick died. Anyway, she sometimes meows loudly when we are upstairs. Perhaps she is wanting to know where we are. However, she also often walks away from us in the dining room and stands facing away from us ten feet away in the living room and starts to meow loudly as if wondering where we are. She is ultimately only appeased by us going into the living room or tv room so that we keep her company.

Long Rider coat repaired

I had this oil cloth long rider coat custom made for length back in 1987 when I started having money for the first time. I think it was a couple hundred bucks or so. It took ages to be delivered because the manufacturers were upset that the Regina agent had taken on a custom fit job. Months passed but I did get it and I wore the hell out of it. At first I rarely drove with it on but eventually I broke that rule. This led to major wear in many seams, cuffs, elbows, collar, and especially the lining. I rolled it up and put it away decades ago, bringing it out only once or twice to be a steampunk cowboy.

In December I took it in to Dean Renwick to have it restored. I got new lining and he put leather patches over many of the areas that had totally broken down. It still has a very distinctively worn aesthetic but now is even more cool. I cannot wait for spring to start wearing it again.

William radio show

On Friday, William pre-recorded his radio show "The Sunday Funnies". This episode had Geremy Lague as his guest and they talked about the comics from Friday February 11, so it wasn't the colour comics that he'd hoped to discuss. This will/should happen once he goes to live broadcasts. The episode aired this morning at 9:00 am. It can also be found here: https://cjtr.ca/radio/sunday-funnies/

comic worth discussing

Carpe Diem comic in the newspaper seemed at first to be just about the old notion that boys are incapable of not being distracted by girls' clothing, but in the corner there is an explanation of the joke which puts me in mind of William and his plan to explain comics on the radio. This is happening soon.

Funny Dark Shadow error

In episode 999 of Dark Shadow, the credits roll (as usual) over a shot of one of the sets. This episode had a crew member eating his lunch in the shot. At one point he looks up, possibly as someone is trying to tell him to leave, but he doesn't. Eventually the camera operator zooms in to crop him out.

Moments of Perception

This book, "Moments of Perception" edited by Jim Shedden and Barbara Sternberg, arrived today. It was released three months ago but I only recently discovered that I am prominently mentioned, having been given a biographic paragraph on page 330.

challenging reflections

Painted last of set of cameras from Noelle. This otherwise ordinary point and shoot was actually really fun to paint due to as series of strange reflections on the curved plastics.

Tiny brass camera

Went through some old stuff looking for a broach a couple weeks ago and found this little brass camera with a note from Gerda, probably from some time in the 90s. Painted it.

Special night out

We went out to the Hotel Sask for a great meal, part of restaurant week. 31 year anniversary.
William recorded a radio show, Sunday Funnies, on spec for tomorrow. Communication with the station has be sporadic. I was William's first guest.

In the grad class this week we shot some images which studied time in differnt ways. What happens while the camera is not looking? Did some classic ghost photography.

Painting Noelle's cameras

A third of the four cameras Noelle lent me: a Kodak EasyShare C310 digital camera from around 2008.

Grocery discount

Margaret went shopping at the Co-op. They have a scratch and save coupon which, to compete with Safeway, they double on the first Tuesday of the month (which would usually result in 2 x 5% for most of the scratchers). Margaret got a 20% card so was discounted 40% on her load of groceries, a total of $143.25 saving. Pretty cool.

Teaching day

Second week of teaching face to face. The students seemed in very good spirits and were chatting a lot. I'm really happy to get the feeling they are already forming a cohort in the middle of the most isolating times. I probably could have done today's screenwriting session on zoom, but it wouldn't have been as fun.
