Alex MacKenzie is in Regina for the first time in 12 years (he did art for lunch in October 2015, but that was before my blog). We had lunch at the club then he set up one of his really intriguing multi-projector projects at the RPL. The 55 minute show included two 16mm projectors, strobes, masks, hand-made emulsions, hand-processed film, three dimensional illusions, liminal images just outside out grasp, echoes and loops both visual and aurally, magic, and so much more. Somewhat more formal and less content-based than work he showed in 2005 or in Victoria in 2007, but also tighter and more controlled. His work has become more about the experience and less about the content and process. I marveled. .
